Our History
AFRICA RAILWAYS LTD is an indigenous Nigerian company set up specifically to operate in the railway transportation sector – to invest in rolling stock and build local capacity to operate a world-class rail transportation service across the entire African continent, one country at a time. Our mantra “BORN IN NIGERIA, NURTURED FOR AFRICA” only reflects our corporate vision “to connect Africa on ONE rail network” by the year 2120, a hundred years from now.
Our collaboration with TUG, Schwartz kristoffel engineering services, and our German Joint venture partners Absolute GmbH covers the entire gamut of the railway transportation sector from design, rehabilitation, and construction to financing as well as operation of railways transportation services.
Our Objective
TAR (TUG African Railways) is a strategic and well-equipped passenger and freight rail service along the already completed standard gauge railway lines in Nigeria. We are committed to a mission of connecting 50 to 54 African countries via Rail over the next 50 years. TAR plays an essential role in supporting sustainable economic growth of its host nations. It aids the connection of people, goods, and haulage from one end to another. TAR’s Operations offer not only prosperity and connectivity but provide export Opportunities for all types of resources (especially Heavy Goods) through a network of coastal ports to the countries in Africa.
